What is Thumbs Up?

Thumbs Up is a check-in app for people who live alone. You check in regularly to let others know you're doing fine. If you miss a check-in, your designated contacts are alerted.

How do I set up the app?

After downloading, choose how often you want to check in (1-7 days) and set what time your check-in deadline falls. Then add contacts who will be notified if you've been quiet too long.

What happens if I forget to check in?

If you miss your check-in deadline, your contacts receive a notification (via the app or email) that you haven't checked in. They can then reach out to make sure you're okay.

Can I pause my check-ins?

Yes! You can activate Ghost Mode to temporarily pause your check-ins, for example when you're on vacation or just don't want to be disturbed.

What data is collected?

As little as possible. We only store your check-in timestamps, your scouts' contact details, and an anonymous device ID. We don't track your location and don't show ads. See our privacy policy for full details.

Can I use the app without an internet connection?

You can use the app locally, but an internet connection is needed to send alerts to your contacts.

I'm not receiving notifications. What now?

Check if notifications are enabled for Thumbs Up in your iPhone settings (Settings > Thumbs Up > Notifications). Also make sure background app refresh is enabled (Settings > General > Background App Refresh).

How do I delete my data?

You can delete your data through the settings in the app. All data on our servers will then be removed.

Is Thumbs Up an emergency service?

No. Thumbs Up is a reminder tool and not a replacement for emergency services. In case of emergency, always call your local emergency number.

Will there be an Android version?

We're working on an Android version. Keep an eye on our website for updates.

Troubleshooting

Notifications not working

  1. Go to Settings on your iPhone.
  2. Scroll to Thumbs Up.
  3. Tap Notifications and make sure they are enabled.
  4. Go back to Settings > General > Background App Refresh and make sure it is enabled for Thumbs Up.

App not syncing

  1. Check that you have an active internet connection.
  2. Fully close the app and reopen it.
  3. If the problem persists, try deleting and reinstalling the app.
