2. What data we collect

Thumbs Up collects as little data as possible. We only collect what is necessary for the app to function:

  • Device ID: An anonymous UUID to identify your device for check-ins and notifications.
  • Check-in timestamps: When you check in, we store the timestamp to determine whether you are within your deadline.
  • Contact details of your scouts: Names and email addresses of the contacts you add.
  • Push notification token (FCM): To send notifications to your device.
  • Optional: your name and post-mortem message: Only if you enter these yourself.

3. What we do NOT collect

We value your privacy. The following data is explicitly not collected:

  • Location data
  • Browsing behavior or app usage statistics
  • Your phone's contact list
  • Health data
  • Advertising IDs or tracking information

We do not show advertisements and do not share data with advertisers.

4. How we use your data

We use your data exclusively for:

  • Processing and storing your check-ins
  • Sending reminders to check in
  • Alerting your contacts when you miss a check-in deadline
  • Making the app function properly

5. Third parties

We use the following external services to make the app work:

  • Google Firebase (Firestore, Cloud Functions, FCM): For data storage, server logic, and sending push notifications. Google processes data in accordance with their own privacy policy.
  • Resend: For sending email notifications to your contacts.
  • Apple Push Notification Service (APNs): For delivering push notifications on iOS.

We do not sell your data to third parties and do not share it for marketing purposes.

6. Data storage and security

Your data is stored in Google Firebase, which employs security measures such as encryption in transit and at rest. Local data on your device is stored via the operating system and is protected by your device's security settings.

Synchronization with the server is optional. You can also use the app locally without sending data to our servers.

7. Your rights (GDPR)

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) you have the following rights:

  • Right of access: You can request which data we hold about you.
  • Right to rectification: You can have incorrect data corrected.
  • Right to erasure: You can request that we delete all your data.
  • Right to data portability: You can request your data in a common format.
  • Right to restriction: You can request that we restrict the processing of your data.
  • Right to object: You can object to the processing of your data.

You can delete your data by deleting your account in the app settings. For other requests, you can contact us using the details at the bottom of this document.

8. Children

Thumbs Up is not specifically aimed at children under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect data from minors. If you suspect that a child has provided data to us, please contact us so we can remove it.

9. Retention period

We retain your data as long as you actively use the app. If you delete your account, your data will be removed from our servers as soon as possible.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. In case of significant changes, we will notify you through the app. The date at the top of this document indicates when the policy was last updated.
